Is Georgia Tech or Boston College More Difficult to Get Into?

For a broad applicant pool, Boston College and Georgia Tech are similarly highly selective, but the answer changes sharply with residency and academic focus. Georgia Tech is notably more attainable for Georgia residents than for out-of-state applicants, while its out-of-state admission process can be especially difficult for students targeting computer science, engineering, and other high-demand technical programs. Boston College does not have an in-state preference of that kind and is consistently selective across its applicant pool.

A student with a very strong STEM record, substantial math and science preparation, and clear technical interests may find Georgia Tech’s evaluation particularly aligned with their profile. For a Georgia resident, however, Tech may be less difficult to enter than Boston College.

Boston College may be the tougher target for a student whose strengths are more evenly distributed across the humanities, social sciences, service, leadership, and rigorous college-preparatory coursework. Its Jesuit, liberal-arts-oriented environment means academic achievement matters alongside evidence of intellectual curiosity, community engagement, and fit with the institution’s values.
