Which offers better overall college value: Boston University or the University of New Hampshire?

For most students, the University of New Hampshire offers the better overall value, especially for New Hampshire residents or anyone facing a substantially lower net price there. UNH provides a full public-university academic experience, access to New England employers, and a respected flagship-campus network without Boston University’s typically much higher private-school cost. Boston University can justify its price only when its financial-aid package brings the real cost close to UNH’s or when its particular programs and city access align closely with your plans.

The biggest difference is cost and debt risk. UNH’s in-state tuition is designed for New Hampshire residents, and even its out-of-state price may be meaningfully below BU’s total cost of attendance. Use the colleges’ net-price offers rather than published tuition to make the final calculation. If BU costs only modestly more after grants and offers a program-specific opportunity you would actively use, the additional investment may be reasonable.
