Should I Choose Harvard or UC Berkeley for Entrepreneurship?

Its connection to nearby founders, alumni, accelerators, and technology employers can make informal networking and internships more accessible. The scale of Berkeley also means more potential collaborators, though students need to be proactive about finding their community.

Harvard can be excellent for entrepreneurship, especially for founders whose ideas sit at the intersection of technology, policy, health, education, business, or the sciences. The Innovation Labs bring together Harvard students and affiliates across the university, and the broader Boston-Cambridge area has major strengths in biotech, research commercialization, and venture capital. Harvard’s smaller undergraduate population and residential culture can make it easier to build close working relationships, although the pure tech-startup scene is less geographically concentrated than Berkeley’s.

For technology entrepreneurship specifically, I would lean UC Berkeley because the combination of technical peers, startup infrastructure, and Bay Area access creates more immediate opportunities to find co-founders and test ideas. Harvard is the more compelling choice if you value its broader liberal-arts environment, expect your venture to connect strongly to research or another Harvard specialty, or believe you would thrive more in its campus culture.
