Its Los Angeles location also creates relevant connections to West Coast climate, wildfire-smoke, drought, and coastal-weather research.

At UCLA, you could study the physical science behind forecasting and climate change in a department whose faculty and courses are dedicated to those subjects. That structure is especially valuable if you may pursue graduate study in atmospheric science, work in climate research, or seek meteorology-related research experiences as an undergraduate.

Carnegie Mellon can be compelling if your main interest is the computational side of the field: machine learning for weather prediction, climate-data analysis, sensors, robotics, energy systems, or environmental technology. Its strengths in computer science, statistics, robotics, and engineering could help you develop highly marketable technical skills.
