The co-op program is especially relevant: many students spend full-time work terms with employers in Boston and elsewhere, so the city can shape both your social life and early career network. Campus is still cohesive, but the boundaries between university life and city life are relatively porous.

UVA fits a student who wants a more traditional, residential college environment centered on a distinctive campus community. Charlottesville has its own appealing downtown and outdoor culture, but it will not replicate Boston’s scale, transit access, density, or concentration of industries. At UVA, student life is more likely to revolve around Grounds, student organizations, athletics, and the Charlottesville community.

If you picture regularly exploring neighborhoods, using public transportation, attending city events, and pursuing local internships during the academic year, that is a substantial reason to prioritize Northeastern. If you value UVA’s academic offerings, campus culture, or particular programs most, Boston alone may not outweigh those factors, since you could still pursue Boston internships or jobs later.
