Which offers stronger engineering internship opportunities: Boston University or Drexel?

Drexel offers the more structured and typically stronger path to sustained engineering industry experience because its co-op program is built into the undergraduate model.

Drexel’s co-op system is not simply a job board: students work with dedicated co-op advisors, apply through an established employer process, and schedule academic terms around work terms. For a student whose top priority is graduating with multiple major-related experiences and a developed résumé, that infrastructure is a meaningful advantage.

Boston University can still provide excellent engineering internships, particularly because Boston offers access to biotech, robotics, medical-device, software, energy, and research employers. BU engineering students can pursue internships during summers or, when their schedules allow, during the academic year, supported by career programming and employer connections. The difference is that internships are more self-directed and are usually fitted around a conventional four-year academic calendar rather than embedded as required full-time work periods.

BU may be appealing if you want maximum flexibility to prioritize research, study abroad, a faster four-year graduation timeline, or a traditional campus schedule. But for deliberate, repeated full-time industry placements, Drexel’s co-op structure is the clearer advantage.
