What are the general transfer application requirements for UC San Diego?
I'm a high school senior thinking ahead about possibly transferring to UC San Diego after starting at a community college, and I'm trying to understand the basic requirements in a way that will still make sense later.
I mostly want to know what UCSD generally expects from transfer applicants, like the type of coursework and academic preparation they look for.

UC San Diego mainly accepts junior-level transfers, so the big academic benchmark is completing transferable college coursework by the end of the spring term before you enroll.
In general, you also need to be in good academic standing and meet the UC minimum GPA requirement. In practice, competitive majors often require a much stronger GPA than the minimum.
Coursework matters a lot. UCSD expects transfer applicants to complete the 7-course UC transfer pattern, which includes two English composition courses, one mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning course, and four courses from at least two of these areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and physical and biological sciences.
Beyond the UC-wide pattern, UCSD strongly prefers major preparation to be completed before transfer. That usually means taking the lower-division courses required for your intended major, such as calculus, chemistry, biology, physics, economics, or programming, depending on the program.
If you are attending a California community college, ASSIST is the key tool to check exactly which courses match UCSD requirements for your major.
Some majors are selective and may require specific courses for admission consideration, not just for graduation. If you are thinking about engineering, computer science, biology, business economics, or another impacted major, planning early is especially important.
