Its residential college system gives students a built-in smaller community within a large university, with separate traditions, councils, events, and living areas. The La Jolla campus also concentrates academic buildings, residences, recreation, and many student gatherings in one walkable setting.

UCSD offers a broad menu of involvement through student organizations, cultural centers, club sports, campus programming, and events tied to its undergraduate colleges.
