Is the University of Florida or the University of Washington better for getting a job in Seattle?

The biggest practical difference is proximity: at the University of Washington, you can build Seattle experience during the school year through local internships, employer events, and part-time work, while the University of Florida would require more intentional summer planning and remote networking. UW’s Seattle campus places students directly in the region’s hiring ecosystem, and its alumni network is especially deep across Seattle-area technology, business, health care, engineering, government, and nonprofit organizations. Recruiters from local employers are also more likely to have established relationships with UW departments and student organizations.

That does not mean a UF degree would prevent you from getting a Seattle job. UF is a well-regarded public research university with a broad national alumni base, and strong applicants can absolutely relocate after graduation. But from Gainesville, you would need to seek Seattle-based internships early, use alumni outreach, attend virtual recruiting events, and be prepared to explain your interest in relocating. For fields with national recruiting, such as some technology, consulting, finance, and graduate-school-oriented paths, the gap can be smaller than it is for employers that hire heavily from nearby campuses.

Your major matters substantially. For computer science, engineering, informatics, business, public health, and related areas, UW’s local connections can make it easier to turn internships into full-time Seattle offers. For careers that depend more on a portfolio, certifications, research, or graduate education, UF can still be a viable launch point, though networking in Seattle remains important.

Because Seattle employment is a clear goal rather than just a possibility, UW is the more advantageous choice for most students.
