It can be a compelling destination for students considering pre-health, biological sciences, chemistry, data science, or interdisciplinary work connecting STEM to public policy, business, or medicine.

Cost and major should carry real weight in this decision. A Florida resident receiving a meaningful in-state cost advantage at UF should take that seriously, since both schools can lead to strong STEM outcomes. But absent a major financial difference, Virginia Tech’s concentrated technical culture and hands-on engineering infrastructure make it the clearer pick for a student seeking an immersive STEM-focused undergraduate experience.
