Boston College vs. Lehigh University: Which Is Better for Engineering?

Lehigh University is the stronger choice for a student who wants a conventional, technically intensive undergraduate engineering education and broad preparation for engineering careers. Its P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science offers established engineering majors across fields such as mechanical, civil, chemical, electrical, computer, materials, industrial and systems, and bioengineering. Boston College’s newer Human-Centered Engineering program is narrower in scope and is designed around an interdisciplinary liberal-arts model rather than a large, traditional engineering school.

Lehigh provides more depth in major-specific coursework, laboratories, faculty research, and peer communities within individual engineering disciplines. That matters if you already expect to pursue an area like mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or chemical engineering, because you can follow a well-developed sequence of technical courses and work alongside many students and professors in that field.

Boston College can make sense for someone specifically drawn to human-centered design, ethics, social impact, and the flexibility of a broader liberal-arts environment. But for the academic depth, disciplinary options, and established infrastructure most students mean when they say they want to study engineering, Lehigh offers the clearer and more comprehensive route.
