For a student already confident about pursuing supply chain management, Penn State offers more direct and specialized preparation. The Smeal College of Business has an undergraduate Supply Chain and Information Systems major, dedicated supply chain faculty and research, and employer relationships built around operations, procurement, logistics, analytics, and manufacturing careers.

Penn State’s supply chain ecosystem is a meaningful advantage: students can take focused coursework earlier, pursue relevant student organizations and case competitions, and recruit with companies that specifically seek supply chain talent. Its large alumni network is especially visible in corporate operations and industrial sectors, which can be valuable for internships and entry-level rotational programs.

UVA makes more sense for a student who wants supply chain to remain one of several possible business paths. McIntire’s Commerce program provides a highly regarded business education with strong preparation in analytics, finance, strategy, and management, but it is not built around a standalone undergraduate supply chain major.
