Is Georgia Tech or Harvard better for financial aid?

For a student who needs substantial need-based assistance, Harvard is far more likely to provide the lower net cost.

Georgia Tech can be an excellent value for a Georgia resident, especially when state scholarships such as HOPE or Zell Miller apply. But its need-based aid is not structured around the same universal commitment to meet every admitted student’s full demonstrated need, and aid packages may include federal loans, work-study, and limited institutional grants. For out-of-state students, Georgia Tech’s higher nonresident tuition makes a large aid gap more likely.

The key comparison is each school’s official net price calculator, using the same current income, asset, household-size, and sibling-in-college information. Do not assume a Georgia Tech merit scholarship will close the difference unless it is already confirmed in writing; Harvard’s need-based policy is often the more predictable source of substantial support.
