The Carle Illinois College of Medicine also helps create a visible pre-health environment and local connections, even though undergraduates still need to apply separately for volunteer roles.

Northwestern’s main advantage is range. Its connection to Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago can expose students to major academic medicine, specialty care, and urban community-health organizations. However, Northwestern’s undergraduate campus is in Evanston, while many of those flagship clinical sites are in Chicago; commuting, program application cycles, and competitive volunteer placements can make a regular commitment less simple.
