Cal Poly’s “learn by doing” culture and compact San Luis Obispo setting make it easier for students to repeatedly see classmates through labs, projects, clubs, and campus routines. UF offers a much broader menu of organizations, events, research activity, and social scenes, but students often need to be more intentional about finding their community within its larger student body.

At Cal Poly, academics are a visible part of campus identity. Many majors emphasize applied work, team projects, studios, labs, and direct connections to practical fields, so classmates can become familiar collaborators rather than just people in large lectures.
