Which offers better access to political internships, UVA or Georgetown?

Georgetown offers more immediate and consistent access to political internships because its main campus is in Washington, D.C., within commuting distance of Capitol Hill, federal agencies, advocacy groups, major political organizations, and think tanks. Many students can pursue part-time internships during the academic year rather than limiting themselves to summer roles, which makes it easier to build experience over several semesters.

UVA is an excellent place to study politics and public policy. Its Charlottesville location, however, means most Washington-based internships require a summer stay in D.C. or participation in a dedicated D.C. program rather than a routine weekly commute from campus.

For congressional offices, campaign organizations, and think tanks specifically, Georgetown students can more readily accept internships that ask for two or three in-person days per week during a semester. That proximity also matters for attending evening policy events, networking receptions, hearings, and guest talks that can lead to opportunities. UVA can still produce strong outcomes in politics, particularly for students who actively seek summer internships and use its alumni network.
