Which school has the stronger undergraduate petroleum engineering program: Georgia Tech or Texas A&M?

Texas AM has the stronger undergraduate petroleum engineering program because it offers a dedicated, long-established Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. Georgia Tech does not offer a standalone undergraduate petroleum engineering major, so it is not a direct academic equivalent for this field.

At Texas AM, petroleum engineering students follow a curriculum built around drilling, reservoir engineering, production, petrophysics, and petroleum economics, alongside engineering fundamentals.

Georgia Tech is an excellent engineering institution, particularly for fields such as chemical, mechanical, civil, environmental, and aerospace engineering. A Georgia Tech student could pursue energy-related work through chemical engineering, earth and atmospheric sciences, research, or electives, but that route would not provide the same petroleum-specific coursework or departmental identity as Texas AM.

For a student who is already confident about petroleum engineering, Texas AM is the more established and academically targeted choice. Georgia Tech makes more sense only if you want a broader engineering major and prefer to keep energy-sector options open beyond petroleum.
