Which college has stronger campus traditions: USC or Michigan?

Football Saturdays at Michigan bring together students, alumni, the Michigan Marching Band, maize-clad crowds, and “The Victors” in the Big House, creating an unusually visible shared experience. Traditions such as avoiding the Block M on the Diag before an exam and gathering for major rivalry games also give students smaller, repeatable ways to participate.

USC has excellent, highly recognizable traditions, particularly around football: the Trojan Marching Band, Traveler, the Song Girls, the Victory Bell, “Fight On,” and the Conquest rally before the UCLA game give the school a distinctive Trojan identity.

For a student prioritizing active participation and a persistent sense that the whole campus is rallied around shared rituals, Michigan provides the stronger tradition-driven environment. USC’s traditions are iconic, but Michigan’s are more likely to shape the rhythm of an ordinary semester as well as the biggest weekends.
