What are the biggest differences in student life between Boston University and the University of San Diego?

Boston University offers the more city-centered, fast-paced, and independent student life; the University of San Diego feels more residential, close-knit, and California-relaxed. At BU, students live and socialize along Commonwealth Avenue but routinely use the T to reach neighborhoods, internships, concerts, restaurants, and other parts of Boston. At USD, much more of daily life is anchored on the hillside Alcala Park campus and in nearby beach-oriented areas.

BU’s social experience is less likely to revolve around one unified campus scene. Its student body is larger, housing is spread across different parts of campus, and many students build separate circles through residence halls, academic programs, clubs, work, and the city itself. There are campus traditions and strong interest in Division I hockey, but a student can have a full social life at BU without participating in a classic weekend-campus-party culture.

Its smaller scale can make it easier to recognize people and develop a consistent friend group.
