Badger basketball at the Kohl Center also draws strong student energy, so the sports culture extends well beyond football season.

Camp Randall sits directly by the main campus, and Wisconsin’s long-running rivalry with Minnesota gives the annual football matchup extra visibility and emotion.

Minnesota still offers a very good Big Ten sports setting, especially if you value a broader mix of teams and the appeal of Minneapolis. Gopher football has a modern on-campus stadium, and Minnesota men’s hockey has a particularly passionate following at 3M Arena at Mariucci; for many students, hockey is the most distinctive part of the school’s sports identity. But for reliable student turnout, recognizable traditions, and the feeling that nearly everyone is invested on a major game day, Madison has the clearer edge.
