Harvard vs. USC: Which college gives students better access to Los Angeles internships?

For LA-based internships during the school year, USC offers a meaningful practical advantage. Its campus is in Los Angeles, so students can interview in person, work part-time during a semester, and build relationships through local events without relocating for the summer.

A USC student can more easily turn a class connection, guest speaker, campus recruiting event, or alumni introduction into an ongoing internship because they are already in the city. That proximity matters most when an employer wants someone available several days a week or when an internship begins informally through networking.

Harvard’s name and alumni network can help a student secure a competitive Los Angeles summer internship, including at employers that recruit nationally. A Harvard student may also have strong access through alumni outreach, faculty connections, and funded summer opportunities. But during most of the academic year, Harvard students are in Cambridge, so LA roles are largely limited to remote work, short-term breaks, or summer positions.

Choose USC if you want to be actively embedded in Los Angeles throughout college, particularly for industries where repeated in-person contact matters. Harvard can be an excellent route for nationally competitive summer opportunities, but its reputation does not fully replace USC’s day-to-day local access.
