Georgetown vs. Cornell for Hotel Management: Which Undergraduate Program Offers Better Career Preparation?

For a student who is certain about hotel management, Cornell offers more direct undergraduate career preparation. Its Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration is a dedicated hospitality program within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, with coursework in hotel operations, real estate, food and beverage, finance, marketing, and hospitality leadership. Cornell students also benefit from the Statler Hotel on campus, a working hotel that supports hands-on learning, plus a large, established hospitality alumni network.

Cornell fits a student who wants to enter the hotel, resort, restaurant, lodging real estate, consulting, or hospitality-investment side of the industry with specialized training from the start. The curriculum combines business fundamentals with industry-specific classes and applied experiences, and its recruiting ecosystem is built around hospitality employers.

Georgetown is a compelling choice for a student who is more interested in broad business education and may later work in hospitality through finance, development, marketing, entrepreneurship, or public policy. Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business has strong access to Washington, D.C., internships and an influential business network, but it does not offer an undergraduate hotel-management major or an equivalent dedicated hospitality school.
