Which has better undergraduate teaching, UT Austin or Dartmouth?

Dartmouth is the stronger choice for consistently close undergraduate teaching and faculty access. Its undergraduate-focused liberal arts model relies heavily on small seminars, discussion-based courses, and professors who teach rather than leaving most instruction to graduate assistants. Dartmouth also has relatively few graduate and professional programs compared with a large public research university, so undergraduates are more central to the academic experience.

At UT Austin, teaching quality can be excellent, particularly in smaller upper-level courses and in selective programs such as Plan II Honors, Liberal Arts Honors, and major-specific honors tracks. But the standard experience at a university of UT’s size often includes large introductory lectures, especially in high-demand fields such as computer science, business, engineering, biology, and economics. Access to a professor can depend substantially on the department, course level, and whether you actively use office hours.
