Housing is the next major differentiator. UCLA’s Los Angeles location can make room, board, and off-campus living expensive, and students should budget for deposits, utilities, groceries, and local transportation rather than relying only on a dorm estimate. UT Austin’s housing costs also vary substantially by dorm, apartment choice, and roommates, but a student who can live with family in Texas may reduce the total far below the standard campus budget.
