At Wisconsin–Madison, beach life means freshwater lake culture centered on Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, not California-style surf-and-sand access.

At USD, the climate makes outdoor time realistic through most of the academic year. Students can build beach trips, sunset walks, surfing, beach volleyball, and coastal restaurants into weekends or lighter afternoons, especially if they have friends with cars.
