Which school offers better undergraduate neuroscience research opportunities, UMN or Pitt?

I’m a high school senior deciding between the University of Minnesota and the University of Pittsburgh for neuroscience. I’m especially interested in getting involved in research as an undergraduate, possibly in areas like brain imaging, cognition, or neurobiology, and I want to understand which school provides stronger opportunities for students to participate in labs.

Neither school guarantees a lab placement simply because of the major; early outreach to faculty, relevant coursework, and flexibility about starting with routine research tasks will matter at both. Still, Pitt has a modest overall edge for an undergraduate whose priority is getting into neuroscience research quickly, particularly in neurobiology or medically connected work. Choose UMN over Pitt when advanced brain imaging or an interdisciplinary neuroscience path is the central reason for attending.
