Emory vs. WashU for Consulting Careers: Which School Offers Stronger Recruiting Opportunities?

The clearest tradeoff is Emory’s proximity to Atlanta and its highly structured Goizueta BBA recruiting ecosystem versus WashU’s strong national alumni reach and a smaller-city campus experience. At Emory, business students enter the undergraduate BBA program after their first years, then recruit through Goizueta’s career resources, consulting clubs, alumni, and Atlanta-based employer network. WashU’s Olin Business School also has dedicated undergraduate career support and active consulting organizations, but St. Louis offers a less concentrated local consulting market than Atlanta.

For management consulting specifically, Emory has a meaningful practical advantage for students who want frequent access to Atlanta offices, alumni events, and in-semester networking with major professional-services and consulting employers. Goizueta has a visible consulting-oriented culture, and Atlanta is a significant market for firms ranging from the largest strategy consultancies to Big Four and boutique firms.

WashU should not be viewed as a weak consulting option. Olin students can pursue consulting through campus recruiting, alumni outreach, case-prep groups, and internships, and WashU’s alumni network reaches well beyond St. Louis. Recruiting success at either school will depend heavily on grades, case preparation, leadership, internships, and proactive networking.

For a student whose main priority is maximizing undergraduate consulting access, particularly in the Southeast and Atlanta, Emory has the slightly clearer edge. WashU is a very credible alternative, especially for someone who prefers its campus, academic mix, or alumni network.
