Is Emory or Vanderbilt better for student support?

At Vanderbilt, first-year students live together on the Commons, with faculty heads of house, resident advisers, and programming designed to make a large university feel more navigable. Emory offers strong advising and residential support, but it does not center the first-year experience around an equivalent single residential system.

For academics, both schools provide dedicated undergraduate advising, tutoring and academic-skills resources, plus specialized guidance for paths such as pre-health. Vanderbilt’s Academic Support Center is a particularly clear hub for learning strategies, tutoring, and coaching. Emory students often find support through Emory College academic advising, faculty, departmental advisers, and offices tailored to particular academic or professional goals, which can feel more individualized but may require more initiative to locate.

Both universities provide counseling and well-being services, and both have expanded ways for students to seek help beyond a traditional therapy appointment.
