Is UF or USF better for finding internships in Tampa?

USF offers the more direct path to Tampa-area internships and employer connections because its main campus is in Tampa. You can realistically intern during the academic year, attend local networking events after class, and build relationships with employers over multiple semesters rather than relying mainly on summer opportunities. That proximity is especially useful for students targeting Tampa’s business, healthcare, technology, finance, and nonprofit sectors.

Being local makes part-time internships more practical. USF’s colleges, including Muma College of Business and USF Health, also place students near relevant regional organizations and professional events.

UF has a strong statewide reputation and a large alumni network, including many graduates working in Tampa. A UF student can absolutely secure a Tampa internship, particularly for a summer term or through intentional alumni outreach. However, because UF is based in Gainesville, maintaining a Tampa internship during fall or spring is less convenient and requires more deliberate planning around housing, commuting, or remote work.

For a student who knows Tampa is the intended long-term market, USF provides a meaningful access advantage.
