Which is more affordable for international students: UF or Boston University?

The University of Florida is substantially more affordable for most international students, even before aid. Boston’s private-university tuition and the city’s high housing and living costs make BU notably more expensive.

At UF, international students are charged the nonresident tuition rate, but Gainesville is a comparatively low-cost college town. Living off campus after the first year can also be a realistic way to control expenses, provided you budget carefully for rent, utilities, groceries, health insurance, and summer housing.

BU’s location is a major cost difference. Boston rents, transportation, and day-to-day expenses are high, and students should expect its published housing-and-meals estimate to be only part of the financial picture. It is not wise to assume BU will reduce its price to match UF.

UF also has limited aid for international students, so its lower base cost matters most. UF is the more financially manageable option for a student covering most expenses personally. Compare the actual net cost on each offer, including whether scholarships renew annually and whether health insurance is included.
