Stanford offers an exceptionally powerful name and alumni base, but you would need to pursue LA opportunities more deliberately through summers, breaks, remote work, and targeted networking.

For internships that can turn into local full-time offers, USC’s location can be a real advantage. A student interested in film, television, music, talent representation, advertising, or LA-based real estate can take part-time internships during fall or spring, meet professionals repeatedly, and develop a local résumé before graduation.

Stanford can still open doors in Los Angeles, particularly for technology, entrepreneurship, venture capital, consulting, and roles where national recruiting matters more than proximity. Stanford’s reputation may create an immediate positive signal with employers, and its alumni include many influential people in Southern California. However, prestige does not automatically substitute for the recurring in-person connections that USC students can make while living in LA.
