However, Canadian medical-school admissions are highly competitive, and applying from McGill to U.S. medical schools can require more careful planning around U.S. prerequisite expectations, advising, clinical exposure, and financial considerations.

Citizenship and long-term practice plans should carry substantial weight. Canadian applicants face different eligibility rules at U.S. medical schools, while U.S. citizens applying to Canadian medical schools may encounter limited seats and province-specific preferences. If you are a U.S. citizen who expects to practice in the United States and the cost is manageable, Vanderbilt offers the cleaner route. If you have Canadian or Quebec ties, prefer McGill’s academic culture, or envision training and practicing in Canada, McGill may align more naturally with your goals.
