UGA vs. Notre Dame: Which is better for a career in finance?

The biggest practical tradeoff is cost and regional reach: UGA can be an exceptional value, especially for Georgia residents and students targeting Atlanta, while Notre Dame carries a higher price but offers a more nationally portable finance recruiting network. UGA’s Terry College of Business is well regarded in the Southeast and benefits from close connections to Atlanta’s major corporate, banking, accounting, and fintech employers.

For traditional high-finance recruiting, Notre Dame has the edge. Its alumni base is unusually engaged, and finance-focused student organizations help students prepare early for networking, technical interviews, and internship recruiting. Notre Dame students can work in Atlanta or other Southern markets, but they also tend to have stronger access to opportunities in Chicago, New York, and other national financial centers.

UGA is not a limiting choice, particularly for corporate finance, commercial banking, wealth management, real estate, accounting-adjacent finance, or a career centered in the Southeast. Terry’s finance curriculum and Atlanta access can lead to excellent internships. At UGA, though, students seeking Wall Street roles may need to be more proactive about joining the right organizations, building technical skills, and networking beyond campus.

For the broadest preparation and recruiting access in finance, particularly if investment banking or a national career is your goal, Notre Dame is the stronger choice. UGA becomes more compelling when its cost is substantially lower and you would be happy building a finance career in Atlanta or the broader Southeast.
