It has an especially strong reputation in engineering, computer science, architecture, construction, agriculture, environmental fields, and related areas. In those spaces, employers are very familiar with Tech graduates, and the school’s practical training, large alumni presence, and recruiting connections can matter more than a broad prestige comparison. A Virginia Tech engineering graduate may be viewed at least as favorably as, and in some contexts more favorably than, a UVA graduate without the same technical preparation.
