Vanderbilt vs. Georgetown for Undergraduate International Relations: Which Is the Better Choice?

For undergraduate international relations aimed at diplomacy, policy, or international organizations, Georgetown is the more directly advantageous choice. Its Walsh School of Foreign Service is built specifically around international affairs, with focused majors such as International Politics, International Economics, and Regional and Comparative Studies. Its Washington, D.C., location also puts students close to embassies, federal agencies, think tanks, advocacy organizations, and multilateral institutions.

Georgetown’s most distinctive advantage is the everyday access to field-related work. During the academic year, students can pursue internships and part-time roles connected to foreign policy without leaving campus for a summer program, while coursework can draw on speakers and practitioners working in government, diplomacy, and policy. The School of Foreign Service also creates a concentrated peer network of students pursuing similar global careers.

Vanderbilt can still provide a strong liberal-arts foundation through International Affairs and related offerings in political science, economics, history, and languages.
