Treat Vanderbilt as the more difficult admission target and Boston University as a highly selective reach or possible target depending on your academic record and intended program. Vanderbilt’s applicant pool is exceptionally concentrated with students who have near-top grades, demanding coursework, and substantial involvement, so being within its published academic range does not make admission likely. Boston University is also selective, but it enrolls a larger undergraduate class and can offer somewhat more room for well-qualified applicants.
