Williams College is often the stronger financial-aid value for students with substantial demonstrated need, particularly families with lower or moderate incomes and limited assets. Williams meets 100% of demonstrated financial need and has a no-loan policy in its aid packages, replacing institutional loans with grants. Its need-based aid is designed to cover the full cost of attendance, not just tuition.

Boston College also states that it meets full demonstrated need for eligible admitted students, but its packages can include different self-help expectations, such as work-study, and the family contribution calculated by BC may not match Williams’s calculation.

For a family with higher income, substantial home equity, business assets, or other resources that reduce calculated need, neither college is obligated to make the price affordable, and the actual offers can be closer than expected.

Compare the official awards line by line: grants and scholarships, required loans, work-study, parent contribution, and whether the package covers tuition, housing, meals, fees, books, travel, and health insurance. Also check the renewal terms and whether either school expects a higher contribution in later years.
