Florida State can justify the cost for a student who wants a large research university with strengths that include the arts, music, film, business, social sciences, public policy, and access to internships connected to Florida’s state capital. Tallahassee offers government, advocacy, policy, and public-service opportunities alongside a major campus community. FSU may also be the more compelling choice when its merit aid reduces the nonresident gap substantially.

A practical ceiling is to avoid borrowing more across all four years than you expect to earn in your first year after graduation. If choosing either school would require large parent loans or significant private loans, the in-state option is likely the wiser investment unless it lacks your essential major, support services, or a truly distinctive opportunity.
