UIUC vs. Boston University: Which Offers Better Access to City-Based Internships and Opportunities?

For students who want to intern, attend industry events, and build professional connections in a major city during the academic year, Boston University provides much more immediate access. BU is embedded in Boston, so students can reach downtown, Cambridge, hospitals, startups, nonprofits, and cultural institutions without needing a car or a long weekend trip. That makes part-time internships, coffee chats, evening panels, and semester-long roles realistically compatible with a full course load.

BU is especially well positioned for students interested in fields with a visible Boston presence, including healthcare, biotech, research, finance, consulting, media, education, public policy, and arts organizations. Students who thrive on frequent off-campus activity and a city-centered college experience are likely to feel that advantage every week.

UIUC’s access works differently. Champaign-Urbana has campus research, local employers, entrepreneurship resources, and substantial recruiting for areas such as engineering, computer science, data, accounting, and business.
