For daily college life, Georgetown feels more embedded in a dense, historic city neighborhood, while Northwestern offers a more self-contained lakeside campus with Chicago available as a major extension of student life. Georgetown students can walk to Georgetown’s shops and restaurants, the waterfront, and nearby Dupont Circle or Foggy Bottom, though the campus is not directly served by a Metrorail station. Northwestern’s Evanston campus sits on Lake Michigan and has a more traditional residential-college atmosphere, with downtown Evanston immediately adjacent and CTA Purple Line access into Chicago.

At Georgetown, Washington is present in the rhythm of the week. Internships, government events, museums, embassies, nonprofits, and policy-oriented speakers are unusually accessible, especially for students interested in politics, international affairs, public service, journalism, or business.
