Is Cornell or Duke better for studying hotel management?

Cornell is the clear choice for an undergraduate pursuing hotel management. Its Nolan School of Hotel Administration offers a dedicated Bachelor of Science in Hotel Administration, with coursework built around hotel operations, finance, real estate, food and beverage, leadership, and hospitality marketing. Duke does not offer a comparable undergraduate hotel or hospitality-management major.

Cornell’s program is unusually industry-specific: students can gain hands-on experience through the Statler Hotel on campus, work with hospitality-focused faculty, and recruit through a network that includes major hotel companies, restaurants, consulting firms, and real-estate organizations. The curriculum also has enough business depth to support paths beyond property operations, including hotel development, asset management, revenue strategy, and entrepreneurship.

Duke can still provide an excellent education in business-adjacent areas through majors such as economics, public policy, or markets and management coursework, but you would need to create your own hospitality focus through internships and electives. That route makes sense only if you are more interested in a broad Duke undergraduate experience and are uncertain about committing to hospitality.

For a student who already knows they want to manage hotels or build a hospitality career, Cornell provides the more direct training, relevant experiential opportunities, and specialized professional network from the start.
