For well-being, the more important question is which kind of pressure you handle better: Princeton’s sustained independent research and writing expectations, or Duke’s potentially intense course and extracurricular pace within a larger, more varied campus culture. A student who wants close faculty contact and is energized by long-form scholarly work may find Princeton’s rigor motivating; someone who values academic flexibility and a more visibly balanced social rhythm may find Duke easier to calibrate.
