Rochester is often especially attractive for a student who wants a research-intensive, discussion-oriented environment and relatively direct access to the University of Rochester Medical Center. Its flexible curriculum can make it easier to pursue a major outside the sciences while completing pre-med requirements, although that freedom requires careful planning. The smaller undergraduate population may also make it easier to build close faculty relationships for strong recommendation letters and research mentoring.

ASU can provide excellent preparation, particularly for a self-directed student. Its size means many majors, labs, student organizations, clinical and service opportunities, and connections across the Phoenix metropolitan area.
