The University of Maryland can still work for a student who enjoys getting outside while also wanting the advantages of a large, well-connected suburban campus near Washington, D.C. Students have nearby options such as the Lake Artemesia area, the Capital Crescent Trail, and regional parks, while Shenandoah National Park and parts of the Appalachian region are feasible for planned day or weekend trips. However, hiking, camping, and mountain sports require more intentional transportation and planning than they do at CSU.
