Which campus has warmer weather overall: the University of Maryland or Florida State University?

Florida State University has the warmer climate throughout the academic year. Its Tallahassee campus has mild winters, long warm-to-hot summers, and substantially more days suitable for short sleeves than the University of Maryland’s College Park campus. Maryland has four distinct seasons, including cold winter temperatures and occasional snow or ice.

At FSU, fall and spring are typically warm, while winter afternoons are often comfortable even though cold fronts can bring occasional chilly spells. Summers are very hot, humid, and rainy, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Tallahassee is inland in Florida’s Panhandle, so it is not as consistently tropical as South Florida, but it remains much warmer than central Maryland.

At UMD, the beginning and end of the academic year can be pleasant and warm, but late fall through early spring is noticeably cooler. Students should expect winter coats, freezing nights, and at least some potential for snow, whereas those conditions are unusual at FSU. Both campuses can be humid in summer.
