Indiana University Bloomington is more likely to feel socially active day to day, especially for a student seeking a traditional, campus-centered college scene. Its Bloomington campus has a highly visible Greek-life presence, a busy weekend culture around Kirkwood Avenue, and a large student population that tends to stay in town rather than disperse into a nearby major city. IU also has strong school-spirit events around Big Ten athletics, campus traditions, and student organizations.

The University of Maryland has an active social environment too, with major athletics, Greek life, residence-hall communities, and a lively stretch of restaurants and apartments along Route 1. However, College Park’s location next to Washington, D.C., means the student experience can feel more geographically spread out.
