Which is better for undergraduate data science: Carnegie Mellon or UC San Diego?

I’m a high school senior deciding between Carnegie Mellon and UC San Diego for undergraduate data science. I’m interested in building strong technical skills and preparing for a career in the field, but I’m having trouble determining which program would be the stronger overall choice.

Neither choice would limit a data-science career. The decision should turn less on the program title and more on whether you want CMU’s concentrated technical intensity or UCSD’s dedicated data-science pathway within a larger, more interdisciplinary university. Cost matters substantially here: a major price difference, especially for an in-state UCSD student, can outweigh relatively small differences in academic opportunity.
