How does the campus location of the University of Florida compare with the University of Barcelona?

For immediate access to a large, international city, the University of Barcelona has the clear advantage; the University of Florida offers a more classic, self-contained college-town setting in Gainesville. UF’s main campus is a large, continuous campus near central Gainesville, while the University of Barcelona is woven into Barcelona itself, with academic buildings and campuses in several distinct city neighborhoods.

At UF, you can walk or bike between many classes, residence areas, athletic facilities, libraries, and campus events without feeling as though you are commuting through a major city. Gainesville has restaurants, coffee shops, nature areas, and an active student-oriented downtown, but it is a smaller inland city. Access to beaches, larger Florida cities, and major airports usually requires planning and a car, bus, or longer trip.

At the University of Barcelona, the experience depends partly on your faculty and campus. Barcelona’s Metro, buses, and walkable neighborhoods make museums, beaches, architecture, nightlife, internships, and everyday city life far more accessible than they would be from Gainesville.
