Should I choose the University of Florida or the University of Copenhagen for studying sustainability?

For an undergraduate student aiming at environmental policy or sustainable development, the University of Florida is the more practical choice unless you are fluent in Danish and specifically want to build a career in Denmark or the wider Nordic region. UF offers sustainability-focused undergraduate study in English and connects students to policy, conservation, agriculture, water, climate, and public-health work across a large research university. Its Florida setting also makes coastal resilience, wetlands, hurricanes, biodiversity, and agricultural sustainability unusually immediate subjects of study.

At UF, students can pair sustainability coursework with political science, economics, geography, environmental science, or agricultural and life sciences, which is useful preparation for policy-oriented jobs. Gainesville also provides access to faculty research and state-level environmental issues.

The University of Copenhagen has an outstanding sustainability and environmental research environment, particularly in climate science, food systems, renewable-energy policy, urban sustainability, and European environmental governance. However, most of its bachelor’s programs are taught in Danish. Choosing Copenhagen for undergraduate study therefore makes the most sense for a student prepared to study in Danish and navigate a degree structure oriented toward Danish and European policy institutions.

Copenhagen could be especially valuable later through a study-abroad term, research experience, or an English-taught graduate degree. Starting at UF would give you broader immediate undergraduate access while preserving that international option.
