How does STEM student life compare at Yale and Caltech?

I’m a high school senior planning to study a STEM field, and I’m deciding between Yale and Caltech. I’m especially interested in how the two schools differ in day-to-day academic culture, collaboration, workload, and opportunities to have a life outside of classes.

Yale offers substantial lab opportunities as well, while also making it easier to combine STEM with fields such as global affairs, music, ethics, entrepreneurship, or public policy. For someone who wants STEM to be central but not all-consuming, that breadth is a real day-to-day advantage.
